New blackberry plant varieties from the University of Arkansas and from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, all are from tissue culture
 to insure virus free, long lasting, high yielding plants. They will start producing the 2nd year and with good care can produce for 12-15
years. All blackberry varieties show great fall color and are an excellent choice for edible landscaping.

NATCHEZ - 2007 new release, early June maturity date, large fruit size 8-9 grams/berry, 3 to 4 berries per ounce. Sugar content is 9.5 %. Fruit are elongated, somewhat blocky, and very attractive with an exceptional glossy, black finish. Superior plant characteristics include thornless, erect to semi-erect canes and good vigor and health. It also shows good potential for home garden use, and is expected to perform well in areas where 'Apache', 'Arapaho', 'Ouachita', or Navaho' are well adapted, including all areas of the South and into the Midwest, in addition to the West and Pacific Northwest. Patent pending. Grow in zones 5 - 9.

OUACHITA - 2003 release, plant patent #17162, fruits avg. 6 grams/berry, good flavor with a 10-11% sugar content. Yield is high with a season lasting
about 5 weeks. Firm, highly quality, glossy black berries, ripens early. Yields large, extra sweet berries, easily harvested off of thornless, fully erect
canes. Ripens early, in mid to late June, and fruiting extends for five weeks giving you more time to enjoy delicious fresh fruit! Highly disease resistant
plant. Zones: 5 - 9 (-20 F.) Self-pollinating. Plant in full sun. Height: 46 ft, Spread: 4-5 ft.

NAVAHO - 1989 release, plant patent #6679. Thornless, erect plants, ripen late June, fruit size is 5 grams/berry, 11.4 % sugar with excellent flavor, season is 5 to 6 weeks. The newly added blackberry is a heavy yielding variety that is both heat and cold tolerant. Navaho is also  very disease tolerant and bears fruit in late July. Thornless with an upright habit and does not need to be trellised, making them easy to pick. Recommended for zones 5-9.

APACHE - 1998 release, patent #11865 University of Arkansas, largest berry at 10 grams/berry, 3 to the ounce. Good flavor with 10.7% sugar content, matures late June. Apache is the highest yielding of the U of Arkansas varieties. This thornless blackberry produces extra large fruits with jumbo-size flavor! Highly fertile fowers get more berries that are perfectly formed. Thornless upright canes on very disease resistant plants that will mature at 5 - 8 ft. in full sun. Spread: 4' - 8'. Apache is self-pollinating. Recommended for zones 5-9.

TRIPLE CROWN - USDA release, semi-erect thornless variety, matures in late July. Five week season with excellent sweet flavor, large 9-10 grams/berry, canes grow to 10-12 ft. Vigorous plants can produce up to 30 lbs. of fruit per yr, plant 8 feet apart. A new trailing blackberry that will bear consistent huge fruit yields year after year. Fruits ripen to a juicy sweet flavor you can harvest and enjoy, eating the large black beauties everyday for over 30 days . Wonderfully complex, sweet flavor without the acidic tang of some varieties. Strong canes can support many pounds of fruit without trellising. Grow successfully in Zones 5-9.

CHESTER - USDA release, semi-erect thornless variety, large very sweet medium size fruit, ripens in mid-August and lasts until September or until frost in zones 5-7. More winter-hardy than any other blackberry! Unusual in that it has pretty pink flowers and great fall color. Chester produces medium to large, round, deep black, very sweet berries. It contains high quality and high yields, and they are excellent eaten fresh or made into preserves and blackberry wine. Chester is a fast grower and requires full sun and is the most hardy thornless blackberry. Training canes to grow on a trellis, they can grow to 10' long. Fruit is borne on previous years growth, so cut canes to the ground after they are quit bearing.
